Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden is the water board in the Utrecht area that works to build and maintain dykes, keep your feet dry and is responsible for cleaning waste water. Check our video 'Working on water' to learn more about our work.

That 's why all inhabitants of 18 years and older may vote for the water boards.

The twenty one water boards in The Netherlands are 700 years old, functional democratic organizations unique to the country (and the world). The organizations are now responsible for flood control, water quantity, water quality and treatment of urban wastewater in The Netherlands. The Utrecht area has four water boards, each with their own elections: Waterboard Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden (1), Vallei en Veluwe (2), Amstel, Gooi en Vecht (3) and Rivierenland (4).
